Well On the Way for a Great NC Hemophilia Walk – Thank You!

September 10, 2009

Congratulations! You've already registered 24 teams, well over 100 walkers and raised $53,116 or 71% of our goal as of today.  The NC Walk is just over five short weeks away and you can feel the excitement building!  We would like to thank everyone who has signed up, recruited walkers, made donations and offered to volunteer for this great event.   Lots of fun activities are planned including the scavenger hunt and games along the walk trail for the kids and plenty of water/treat pet stops for our four-legged friends that will be hosted by the local Girl Scout Troop!  There will also be chair massages to help relax you for the walk and a fun photo booth to take home a great souvenir picture from the day.  We have Stormy (the Carolina Hurricanes mascot) and their Slap Shot booth along with the famous "Jambulance" with DJ Kevin and emcee, Julie Henry from NBC 17 joining us again this year.

We would like to extend our congratulations to Nebraska, Northern Ohio and NYC who hosted their walks already this year and collectively raised over $200,000 with hundreds of walkers participating.  In total, the 10 walk sites have raised over $500k so far with two sites, Indiana & The Lone Star Chapter in Houston, hosting their walks next week.  We wish them well on a very successful event!

We're thrilled to announce the addition of many NC teams that are stepping to make a difference!  We welcome back from 2008 the UNC Tar Healers led by Brenda Nielsen, Zackary and the Factor 8s led by Tiffany Hargett, Walk N'Roll led by Donna Compton, Jacob's Warriors led by Deneen Brayboy, MedPro Rx with team captain Leroy Taylor, Bennett's Buddies led by the Barnes Family who were our very gracious 08 walk chairs, the Factor Nine Gang with John Sakakeeny at the lead, Gavin's Gang (our tee-shirt winners from 08) with team captain Tera Griffith, Walgreen's OptionCare led by Kim Best, Hemophilia Health Services led by Deborah Lalik, Team Grifols led by Tim Duncan, Team South Cows led by the Cowell Family, Team Novo with team captain Lois Geer, Helena's Children with team captain Megan Greenwood, Baxter Healthcare led by Janie Davis and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars led this year by Johanna Lopez.

We also have several new teams this year that we would like to welcome on board!  Walk It Out for Hemophilia led by board member Warren Ingram, Hemophilia Latin Union led by Guillermo Sanchez and The Rusty Joints (love the name!) led by the Huff Family!

This year we welcome the Key Club from Enloe High School who will be helping to volunteer on the day of the Walk and make sure everything runs smoothly!

With so many teams now up and running with tremendous success, it is hard to highlight them all but we'll do our best!  This week's highlighted teams are KittyKat Kathryn, walk chair team for 09 with team leaders Eric & Melissa Morrison, Factor 1 in a Million, led by Ann Skinner, Rob Co's Finest with team captain Maxine Locklear and Carrboro Factor Ones led by Sue Fletcher.  These teams represent different areas of the state and have reached out to their communities in Charlotte, Carrboro, Robeson County and Wake Forest to help support their efforts.  They've planned events (including an upcoming Scavenger Hunt in Carrboro on Oct 11th), recruited sponsors and done a fantastic job of sharing information about the walk.  Each has a very special story and I hope you take the time to check out their special message on the attached page.  Our thanks to all the families for their wonderful support!

As our thermometer rises, so does the excitement!  In two weeks we raised over $2500 through the outstanding effort of these team captains and their team members.  With the Walk only a few short days away, we are asking that you visit the walk page at www.hemophilia.org/walk to sign up today!  If you're already signed up and are part of the team, set your fundraising goal, ask your friends, family & co-workers to help support you and continue to help recruit walkers for what is sure to be a terrific day!   Wouldn't it be great to hit a nice round $55,000 this week?  When we hit our goal of $75,000, HNC will receive a $10,000 bonus which will go a long way in helping to provide more assistance and programs to the local community.

Remember every step, dollar & minute of your time makes a huge difference!

Thank you!
