NHF Washington Days - NC DelegationFebruary 24-25, 2010January 14, 2010The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) hosts Washington Days, which is one of our community's most important annual events. This is our opportunity to put a face on bleeding disorders for our elected officials in Congress and to have our voices heard on key issues that affect our lives and our health. This year is significant because as you know, health care reform has dominated the Congressional debate for the past year. This is our chance to make sure that the needs of the bleeding disorders community are taken into account as health reform moves into the final stretch. Washington Days 2010 will take place on February 24-25, 2010. An interactive training session is scheduled for Wednesday evening where participants will be briefed on the issues and have time to meet with their state delegation. On Thursday, we will be on the Hill for visits with our Congressional members. The afternoon will conclude with a "check-in" to discuss the results of our meetings. We will likely focus talking point priorities on health reform and the issues most important to the bleeding disorders community including insurance reforms such as lifetime and annual caps, pre-existing condition exclusions, rating reforms and extension of depended coverage; affordability of insurance coverage; and the importance of having access to care at hemophilia treatment centers. More information on Washington Days, including a draft timeline and frequently asked questions, is available on the National Hemophilia Foundation web site at www.hemophilia.org. Specific talking points will be posted and shared, as we get closer to the date. We hope you will take this opportunity to share your story and participate in this very important event. If you are interested in being a part of the North Carolina delegation, please contact HNC at 800-990-5557 or by email at info@hemophilia-nc.org. All registrations for Washington Days will be facilitated through the Chapter. Limited hotel accommodations are available so please contact us as soon as possible. — Susan Cowell |
